When I was asked to contribute to the Penhally Bay series and was told that my hero was Spanish, there was only one thing for it- I had to go to Spain to do some research. I convinced a friend to come with me and we flew into Malaga, hired a car and set off to explore the Andalucia region of Spain. It was while I was sitting in a church in Rhonda that the opening scene of the book came to me. I could see a woman, in desperate pain, seeking some kind of comfort. And so Annie’s story started. I was working in an IVF unit at the time so was very aware of how infertility affected women. Being in Spain, surrounded by gorgeous Spaniards made it easy for me to imagine Dr Raphael Castillo.
I knew also that a woman with a low AMH could still conceive and as my book opened at the beginning of a new year, I gave Annie the miracle she’d been praying for. But how does she tell the man she only knew for a couple of days and who lives in Spain that she is expecting his child? And what will happen when she does?
