Exploitation or desperation?

I was reading in the Sunday Times supplement about women who are going to India in search of surrogates. Apparently there is quite a burgeoning industry there. I really feel for women who can’t conceive and as most people will know, I support and understand a woman’s need to have children, but is it fair to take advantage of women who desperately need money?

I was also astonished to read, in the same article, that a woman had been advised by her IVF specialist to have her baby delivered in a private hospital. At a cost of 35 000 pounds! (Surely I misread that figure.) That smacks even more of exploitation to me. Delivering in a NHS hospital is usually safer. What do you think?
